Volunteer with us

We need volunteers in our playroom during our pre-school morning sessions; our volunteers are there to play with the children, and to assist our team of Play Leaders and Early Years Practitioner apprentices.

Our playroom volunteers support by helping our staff to provide individual help and attention during sessions, ensuring all our children have the support they need to thrive and develop throughout their learning journey at TOG.

Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds, knowledge and interests. Some are more experienced than others; for example, former parents/carers often decide to volunteer their time to TOG once their child has transitioned to school. Regardless of previous experience working with babies, toddlers and pre-school aged children with special educational needs, all our volunteers are offered support and training.

What to expect

Volunteering your time to TOG can be a rewarding and valuable experience, and it gives you an opportunity to:

  • Make a difference to the learning experience of our children.
  • Gain new, transferrable skills.
  • Training opportunities such as safeguarding and health and safety.
  • Meet new people; as well as meeting our children and their families, you will be working alongside our staff and other volunteers, as well as external healthcare professionals.

TOG is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and does require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Applicant volunteers must disclose any convictions and/or orders made against them, and are required to provide 2 references.

TOG is an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from all sections of the community. Applicants will be considered based on suitability for the post, regardless of marital status, age, gender, disability, culture, religious belief, ethnic origin or sexual orientation.

How to apply

No experience is necessary for a voluntary position at TOG. However, it is important that an initial face-to-face meeting with our Manager takes place for both parties to decide whether TOG is the right fit for you. We are a specialist provision and so finding people we feel capable to work with our children is very important.

If you are interested please contact our Manager stating your reasons for wanting to volunteer and highlighting the skills and experience you possess which you feel will help you in the role.
